Meet Recap

Wow, there was great excitement at the Jesse Jones Invite Thursday night at Morton High School as the Boys’ and Girls’ teams each finished in first place in their division and brought home the Co-ed Championship trophy beating BNI, West Side and East Chicago Central. Leading the way for the Lady Govs in multi-individual events were: Hannah Hammar with a first place finish in the 800m run and 2nd place in the 400m dash; Giselle Flores with a 1st place finish in the 3200m run and a 3rd in the 1600m run; Jhanelle Spence placed 4th in both the 200m dash and the long jump; Brooklyn Cade placed 2nd in the high jump and 3rd in the 100 high hurdles; Tyasia Jones finished 5th in both the 100 high hurdles and 300 low hurdles; and Kenadee Williams placed 2nd in the discus and 5th in the shot put. Finishing out the individual scoring were Tatiana Clady with a 3rd place throw in the discus; Jaida Blisset with a 4th place in the high jump; Breanna Brignac with a 2nd place in the long jump; Leilah Hicks with a 3rd place finish in the 100m dash; Aaliyah Clopton placed 2nd in the 1600m run; and Ariah Smith placed 1st in the 300 low hurdles. Once again the relays came through with some great, exciting races: the 400m relay team of Brianna Rodriguez, Jhanelle, Ariah and Leilah ran a season best time and placed 2nd; the relay team of Aaliyah, Ani Montford, Giselle and Hannah placed 1st in the 3200m relay, and capping off one of the best performances of the night and holding off a strong West Side team by 1 second in the 1600m relay was the team of Leilah, Ariah, Aaliyah and Hannah. Congratulations girls! And a special congratulations to our seniors: Leilah Hicks and team managers Denisha Maeweather and Treanna Harris as we recognized them at our last home meet. Good luck next week Monday at the ECC Invite and Wednesday at the Highland Invite.
