Meet Recap

The Girls track team had their best finish in the Highland Invite in years, with a 2nd place finish to Highland out of a 10 team field. Starting off in the high jump were Jaida Blissett and Brooklyn Cade placing 3rd and 4th, Jhanelle Spence placed 6th in the long jump, and Kenadee Williams placed 4th in the discus with a personal record (PR) of 96’10.5. In the running events: Leilah Hicks placed 2nd and Breanna Reed 4th; Hannah Hammar placed 2nd in the 400 dash and 1st in the 800 run as teammate Aaliyah Clopton placed 7th in the 800; Clopton and Giselle Flores finished 6th and 7th in the 1600 run, and Flores also placed 5th in the 3200 run; Brooklyn Cade and Tyasia Jones placed 6th and 8th in the 100 high hurdles; and as Jones placed 7th in the 300 low hurdles, Ariah Smith ran as an alternate for the Governors and was placed in the slow heat but still came away with a time that placed her 1st over all. The 400 relay team of Brianna Rodriguez, Spence, Reed and Hicks placed 1st with their best time of the season, and the 1600 relay team of Hicks, Smith, Reed and Hammar also placed first. The 3200 relay team of Clopton, Ani Montford, Flores and Hammar almost had a PR, and finished 2nd to Highland. Congratulations ladies, continue the hard work as the GLAC meet and Sectionals are just around the corner.
