The timing was off for the Governors, not that their personal performances were off, but the timing of an important Advanced Placement workshop for students conflicted with the same date of this invite and left the Governors without several solid performers and most importantly members of relay teams. With that being said, the Governors still had some stellar performances with great competition all around and several athletes set personal records (PR’s) during the meet. Scoring for the Governors were: Aqila Coleman who took 6th in the 200 and 8th in the long jump; Kiarra Salhus placed 6th in the long jump; Kamille Thomas placed 8th in the high jump and rounding out the individual performances were Laurentha Horton with a PR in the shot put and placing 4th while teammate Erion Colins also PR’d in the discus and finished 8th. The best finishes for the Governors in the meet were the 4×100 and the 4 x400 relay teams. The 400m relay team of Aqila, Kiarra, Breanna Brignac and Lynnae Collins placed 2nd and the 1600m relay team of Aqila, Breanna, Kiarra and Brezhan Durant finished in 3rd place. Nice job ladies on picking up the fight and showing your character of battling while shorthanded in numbers. Your efforts will produce dividends in the future. The Governors will be at home for their next meet which will be on Thursday for the Jesse Jones Invite on April 18th. We will be recognizing our seniors that night for their efforts and contributions to Morton High School as student-athletes! Hopefully our hurdlers will be healthy and ready to go for that meet. Go Govs!
