The Governors fell behind early and couldn’t come back in a 9-2 loss to Hobart High School on Saturday.
Morton struggled to contain the high-powered offense of Hobart, giving up nine runs.
Hobart scored four runs in the third inning led by Jaden Deel and Ryan Earp, sending runners across the plate with RBIs in the inning.
Matthew Benton was credited with the victory for Hobart. He allowed seven hits and two runs over six innings, striking out eight and walking one. Austen Kunkle threw one inning in relief out of the bullpen. Kunkle recorded the last three outs to earn the save for Hobart. Marc Ensien, Benton, and Balboa all had multiple hits for Hobart and the defense was sure-handed in the field and didn’t commit a single error.
Angel Rameriez took the loss for the Governors He allowed seven hits and seven runs over four innings, striking out one.
