After having their first outdoor meet rained out last Thursday, the Governors got their outdoor season off to a good start Tuesday night with a victory over Gavit with 23 points, Clark with 25 and Lighthouse with 56. Lighthouse may have dominated the sprints but the Governors garnered more points in the field and distance events as well as doubled up on a lot of top 5 finishes to pull out the victory. Leading the way for the Governors with 1st place finishes were: Aaliyah Clopton who placed 1st in both the 800m and 1600m runs, Nathaly Ponce in the 3200m run, Brooklyn Cade in the discus, Ce’Etter Stevens in the high jump, Kiarra Salhus in the long jump, and the 3200m relay team of Nathaly, Taliyah Callum, Jada Bustos and Kamilla Zhambulatova. Adding vital points to the Governor victory in the field events were: Laurentha Horton with a 3rd in discus and a 2nd in shot put, Erion Collins with a 4th in shot put, Kamille Thomas with a 2nd place in the high jump, and Aqila with a 5th in the long jump. In the running events Tyasia Jones and Trinyte Jefferson went 2nd and 3rd respectively in the 100 high hurdles, then flipped their performance with Trinyte 2nd and Tyaisa 3rd in the 300 low hurdles, Lynnae Collins placed 3rd in the 100m dash and Breanna Brignac placed 5th, Kiarra and Brezhan Durant were 2nd and 5th in the 400m dash, Taliyah placed 3rd in the 800m run, and Aqila and Lynnae placed 4th and 5th respectively in the 200m dash. The 400m relay team of Aqila, Ce’Etter, Breanna and Lynnae, and the 1600m relay team of Kiarra , Aqila, Breanna and Kiarra both finished 2nd.
