Ce’Etter Stevens had an impressive start to her senior track season with a first place finish in the high jump, and running solids legs on both the 6 lap and mile relay teams with a 2nd and 1st place finish respectively. With only 4 seniors competing, several underclassmen showed their competitive spirit with gutty performances. Regina Graves demonstrated her character when she clipped a hurdle and fell but got up and finished the race to score points for the Governors, then placed 4th in the 440 later and filled in for an injured teammate and ran the anchor leg for the victorious Mile relay team. Jasmin Jimenez with one lap to go got nauseated but still persevered to bring home a 1st place finish. Other Governors adding to the Governors 2nd place team finish were Amaya Cobb with a 3rd place finish in the 220, Melissa Martinez and Barbara Haymer finished 1-2 respectively in the 880, Leslie Cueteya placed 4th in the Mile, Katelan Stone placed 2nd in the 60 yd. high hurdles, Zareyah Williams rounded out the individual scoring with a 3rd place in the shot put with a person best over last years performances. The team’s senior captain Breanna Brignac demonstrated her leadership skills getting the 6 lap and mile relay teams off to good starts and finishing with a 2nd and 1st place finish. Also competing on the 6 lap relay team with Bre and Ce’Etter were Amaya Cobb and Ashli Odom, while Jahnei Smith and Regina Graves joined them on the mile relay team. Nice effort ladies and good luck next Friday at Lake Central.
